A 31-year-old taxi driver is in critical condition following a shooting incident that occurred late Monday night in Triumph, East Coast Demerara. Police reported that the shooting took place around 11:45 PM near the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in Region Four.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim, a resident of Annandale West, was driving west along the public road in a vehicle with another male passenger when they were allegedly pursued by multiple motorcyclists. Eyewitness accounts suggest that a loud noise was heard, which coincided with the right-side glass of the car shattering.

Shortly thereafter, the driver reportedly lost consciousness, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a metal rail. Emergency responders rushed the victim to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where doctors confirmed he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

The police have since examined the car involved in the incident and have lodged it as part of their ongoing investigation. They are also canvassing the area for CCTV footage, which has been successfully retrieved, and have reached out to several individuals for questioning.

At this time, no arrests have been made, but authorities state they are pursuing multiple leads as the investigation continues. The community remains on alert as police work to uncover more details about the shooting and its motive.’
