Gold Miner Fined for Driving Under the Influence in North West District

Ronaldo Phillips, a 25-year-old gold miner from Citrus Grove, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal breath alcohol limit, contrary to Section 39A (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.

Phillips was arrested on January 12, 2026, in connection with the offence, which occurred at Six Miles Public Road in the North West District.

On January 14, 2026, Phillips appeared via Zoom at the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman. During the hearing, the charge was read to him, and he pleaded guilty.

As a result, Phillips was fined $200,000. Should he fail to pay the fine, he faces a default sentence of three months’ imprisonment. This case highlights ongoing efforts to enforce road safety and reduce incidents related to driving under the influence in the region.
