The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) regrets to confirm the death of a female patient who was recently admitted to the institution and being managed on a medical ward.

The patient first presented to the Emergency Department on January 17, 2026, with complaints of headaches and abnormal behavior. Following evaluation, she was admitted for further management. The Internal Medicine team reviewed her case and referred her for psychiatric assessment due to observed behavioral concerns. During the psychiatric evaluation, no suicidal ideation or psychotic symptoms were identified.
Tragically, at approximately 6:55 PM on January 18, an alarm was raised indicating that the patient had jumped through a window in the Female Medical Ward. Hospital personnel responded immediately, but the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.
GPHC officials have met with the patient’s family and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Psychosocial and psychiatric support services have been offered to both the family and staff affected by this tragic incident.
In response, GPHC has initiated a full internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. This review will include an evaluation of existing protocols related to patient observation and mental health monitoring, including suicide watch policies, to identify any areas for strengthening patient safety.
The hospital extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
