Police Investigate Discovery of Suspected Cannabis in Bartica

Police in Regional Division #7 are actively investigating the discovery of suspected cannabis following an intelligence-led operation conducted on January 23, 2026. The operation took place at Fifth Avenue, Bartica, between 10:30 AM and 11:20 AM.

Preliminary investigations revealed that officers conducted a search at the residence of a 40-year-old self-employed male. During the search, police uncovered thirteen zip-lock parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis in the living room area.

In addition to the narcotics, further searches led to the recovery of cash totaling $3,009,440 Guyana currency.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station. The suspected cannabis, which weighed 23.2 grams, was weighed in the suspect’s presence. Both the suspected cannabis and the cash have been lodged pending further investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
