A 26-year-old supermarket cashier, Shyon Freeman, from Brutus Street, Agricola, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday. Freeman was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 after pleading not guilty to charges related to a shooting incident involving a 16-year-old boy.

The charge alleges that on May 18, 2025, Freeman discharged a loaded firearm with the intent to cause actual bodily harm to De’Angelo Nick. The prosecution objected to bail, citing concerns for the safety of the virtual complainant and key witnesses, including the teen’s mother, who reportedly was shot at during the incident.
During the hearing, Magistrate McGusty inquired if Freeman had made threats, interfered with witnesses, or committed any acts of violence while on previous bail. The prosecution could not provide any evidence of such incidents, leading the magistrate to rule that bail was appropriate.
Freeman has been ordered to report to the Agricola Police Outpost on the last Wednesday of every month. The case has been adjourned to February 20, 2026.
Family members of the injured teenager reported that on the night of the incident, De’Angelo was asleep in his home when several rounds were fired through his bedroom window, striking him in the leg. Shots were also reportedly fired at another family member’s residence.
The teen’s mother claimed she witnessed the shooting and identified Freeman as the alleged shooter. It was further alleged that she was also targeted by Freeman but managed to escape.
Family members expressed concern over the escalating violence in the area, highlighting this incident as part of a troubling pattern in the community.
Freeman, according to her attorney, has no prior convictions. However, reports indicate that in 2017, she was remanded to prison for allegedly harboring Marlon Jeffrey, who was wanted by police for various offences, including escaping lawful custody.
The community remains on edge as the investigation into this latest incident continues.
