Family Desperately Seeks Help for Missing 80-Year-Old Woman

The family of Venus Henry, an 80-year-old woman missing for over two weeks, is in deep distress, claiming a lack of assistance from relevant authorities in their search for her.

Venus Henry, of lot 1560 Parfaite Harmonie, was last seen at home on January 10, 2026, around 10:00 AM. At that time, she was wearing a burgundy top and a black flowered skirt. Her family is urgently calling for her safe return and for more support from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

In an interview with Kaieteur News on Tuesday, Henry’s daughter, Yonette Mc Allister, described the last encounter she had with her mother. Mc Allister said she was talking with her mother in the yard when Venus decided to take a rest. Hours later, Mc Allister was awakened by her children, who reported that they had not seen their grandmother. “The last place I saw her was outside, and we were talking. She said she was going to take a bath, and I told her I was going to sleep. My kids then went to give her lunch, but when they called for her, she was already gone,” Mc Allister recounted.

After Henry failed to return the next day, Mc Allister filed a missing person report at the La Parfait Harmonie Police Station. However, she has not received any updates since then. In an effort to locate her mother, the family began posting flyers in the area and on social media.

A lead emerged when a woman contacted Mc Allister, stating she saw Venus at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) at Vreed En Hoop on the day she went missing. The woman also mentioned that another girl at the Vreed en Hoop junction had seen Venus getting into the same vehicle to travel to Wales. Attempts to retrieve video footage from the bank were unsuccessful.

Mc Allister expressed her frustration, saying, “The police aren’t even helping. We went to the bank for footage, and they didn’t give us anything.”

She also highlighted that her mother, originally from Corentyne, Berbice, had moved in with her four years ago after her husband’s passing. Due to her memory issues, Mc Allister fears that Venus may be lost or confused in unfamiliar surroundings.

Since her mother’s disappearance, Mc Allister has experienced sleepless nights, consumed by concern for her well-being. “It is so hard knowing that she is out there and we can’t find her. We don’t know where else to look,” she lamented.

Describing her mother as kind and a loving grandmother who helped care for her children, Mc Allister is calling for anyone with information about Venus Henry’s whereabouts to contact her at 641-4271 or 632-3067.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine, the divisional commander, confirmed that a report has been made, and police are actively investigating the matter.
