This announcement was made during the considerations of estimates and expenditure for Budget 2026 on Wednesday evening. The Committee of Supply approved a substantial G$10.9 billion for the Ministry, of which G$6 billion is specifically allocated for sports development.

Minister Ramson emphasized the government’s aggressive infrastructure drive aimed at decentralizing elite sports facilities, moving away from a Region Four-centric model. The initiative seeks to provide state-of-the-art sporting venues across both the coastland and the interior regions of the country.

“For the people of Anna Regina, they’re going to be really excited,” Minister Ramson stated during the budget discussions. “We are going to be opening all five stadiums this year. We’ve already done one; we have four more to go.”

In addition to the new stadiums, the Minister indicated that the transformation of the historic MacKenzie Sports Complex is nearing completion. He confirmed that the complex is fully state-owned and is undergoing comprehensive modernization, with an anticipated commissioning date in April, weather permitting.

All stadiums are expected to be opened in 2026, along with the potential addition of two indoor multi-purpose halls. Minister Ramson also disclosed plans for management structures to be established through the Ministry, focusing on ensuring that athletes have access to these facilities and that they are maintained to the highest standards.

The developments in sports infrastructure reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing sporting opportunities and fostering a culture of athletic excellence throughout Guyana.
