A former police officer from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Region Six, Seon Hunte, has tragically lost his life following a car accident on the Number 74 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 05:00 hrs.

Hunte, 34, of Albert Street, Number 79 Village, was reportedly en route to Georgetown when he lost control of his vehicle, colliding with a utility pole before coming to a stop in an empty lot.
His partner, Tishana Harrilall, recounted the harrowing experience of receiving a call that Hunte had been taken to the Number 75 Regional Hospital. Arriving at the hospital, she found him unconscious. Later that afternoon, medical staff informed her that he would need to be placed on life support. Tragically, around 19:00 hrs, she learned that he had succumbed to his severe injuries, which included a fractured skull, broken feet, and injuries to his throat and spine.
The family is now facing immense grief as they come to terms with Hunte’s sudden and untimely passing. His mother, Caroline Small, reflected on their last conversation on Valentine’s Day, cherishing the words shared. “He called me and wished me ‘Happy Valentine’s,’ and he said, ‘Mommy, I love you.’ I’m glad I heard his voice that day,” she recalled.
Hunte leaves behind two children, and his loss is being deeply felt across the community as family and friends grapple with the void left by his passing.
