In a heartfelt plea on social media Posted by Jomar Hudson, Danielle Schultz, a mother of two, has reached out to the members of the Parliamentary Opposition of Guyana, urgently seeking their intervention regarding her ongoing medical crisis. Schultz is facing Stage 5 kidney failure, compounded by diabetes and a rare heart condition known as dextrocardia, where her heart is positioned on the right side of her body along with other reversed organs.

Schultz’s situation is dire; she states that her survival depends on consistent and timely dialysis treatment. However, she claims to have experienced significant neglect and inadequate care within the public healthcare system, particularly at Linden Hospital and Georgetown Public Hospital.
In her message, she described her experience at Linden Hospital as characterized by delays in care, poor monitoring, and a lack of urgency. Hoping for better treatment upon her transfer to Georgetown Public Hospital, Schultz reports that she encountered further issues, including inconsistent dialysis services and poor infection control practices. She recounted feeling dismissed by medical staff even while reporting severe pain and complications during treatment.
These unmet medical needs have led to frequent infections and repeated emergency hospitalizations, further jeopardizing her health. Due to systemic failures, Schultz has been forced to seek alternative care at her own expense, covering the costs of expensive dialysis sessions, medical tests, and medications.
Currently unemployed due to her illness, she described her financial burdens as overwhelming. In her appeal, Schultz not only seeks financial assistance but also calls for advocacy and intervention from the parliamentary opposition to shed light on her case and the broader issues faced by vulnerable patients within public hospitals.
“If financial support is not possible, I humbly ask that you help amplify my situation so that accountability can be demanded and meaningful action taken,” Schultz wrote.
She concluded her message by expressing her deepest wish to remain healthy enough to care for her children, trusting that the members of the opposition would respond compassionately to her distress.
Schultz’s contact number is available at 643-5273 for any assistance or outreach related to her urgent appeal. As her story unfolds, it highlights significant concerns regarding the accessibility and quality of healthcare in Guyana, calling attention to the need for systemic reform to ensure that all patients receive the care they deserve.
