PNCR Launches Education Campaign to Uphold Legacy of Forbes Burnham

News

Aubrey Norton, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), has announced a series of public education initiatives aimed at countering narratives that seek to diminish the contributions of the party’s Founder Leader and late President of Guyana, Forbes Burnham. The announcement follows a recent commemoration of Burnham’s 103rd birth anniversary at his final resting place in the Botanical Gardens, Georgetown.

Describing Burnham as “the greatest leader that Guyana produced,” Norton emphasized that there have been efforts to rewrite history regarding Burnham’s impact on the nation. “This is the beginning of the intensification of the provision of information on the contributions of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham to Guyana. It cannot be erased; whether they like it or not, he is the greatest leader we produced,” he stated amid enthusiastic cheers from party supporters.

Norton underscored the importance of properly recognizing Burnham’s contributions, highlighting his role in expanding the country’s road network, improving public infrastructure, implementing free education from nursery to university, and enhancing health services across Guyana during his tenure. “When he came to power, there were only a few government health centers; it was Burnham and his son-in-law, Richard Van-West Charles, who significantly contributed to the establishment of a network of health centers across Guyana,” Norton recalled.

He reiterated that the decisions Burnham made to foster regional and international relationships continue to hold significance today. Norton insisted that the party cannot passively observe the erasure of their leader’s legacy. “We have to work against this revision of history; the contributions of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham are unmatchable. No other President—none—can claim to have contributed to Guyana in the way he did,” he declared.

Despite past challenges, Norton affirmed that the PNCR remains a party with a robust foundation and legacy, ready to educate the public on Burnham’s achievements and ensure his contributions are remembered.
