A 27-year-old resident of Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on Tuesday after being caught with an unlicensed firearm. According to a statement from Police Headquarters, officers were alerted to an incident involving the discharge of a loaded firearm at Buxton Middle Walk around 4:44 AM.

Responding to the report, police officers proceeded to a location near a wash bay where they observed the suspect entering a motor vehicle. Upon making contact with him, a search revealed a concealed 9mm pistol on his person, which was fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of matching ammunition.
When questioned about a firearm license, the suspect indicated that he did not possess one. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station for further processing.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged as evidence, and the motor vehicle in which the suspect was seen entering has also been secured pending investigation. The suspect remains in police custody as authorities continue their inquiries into the matter.
