Ruth Persaud, a neighbor, recounted the harrowing events that unfolded on Sunday afternoon. At about 1:40 PM, she was at home with her family when distant screams pierced the quiet. Moments later, the area fell silent, prompting her to investigate.

When she looked outside, she saw 49-year-old Olive Thompson staggering toward her house, blood soaking her clothing. Persaud quickly assisted Thompson into a vehicle, while, at the same time, she noticed Singh leaving the yard on his motorcycle, his clothes stained with a green substance believed to be poison.

Thompson was rushed to the nearby Number 75 Public Hospital, where she received urgent medical attention. Although a report was made to the Springlands Police Station, Thompson did not disclose details of the attack to Persaud.

The couple’s daughter, Chandra Singh, was in Rose Hall Town when she received news of the incident. She and her siblings immediately rushed to the hospital, learning that their mother had been attacked inside a bedroom. Later that day, police visited their home in search of Patrick Singh, and a search party was organized after it was suggested that he had ingested poison.

Tragically, on Tuesday at approximately 10:45 AM, relatives discovered Singh lying unresponsive in a secluded area of the Number 76 New Housing Scheme. He was taken to the local public hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Chandra revealed that her mother sustained 12 stab wounds, including one that injured her liver. Thompson underwent successful surgery to repair the damage, and her condition has since improved. The family is relieved that they were able to speak briefly with her, though she remains in pain.

“I am praying to God that she gets much better and comes out from there,” Chandra stated.

Chandra also noted that her mother had never indicated any issues in the relationship. The family had planned to visit Number 63 Beach later that afternoon, and everything had seemed normal before they left. “We left him in the hammock, and she was inside. When we left to go to Rose Hall Town, everything was normal—no argument, nothing,” she explained.

Patrick Singh is survived by his wife, seven children, and numerous relatives and friends. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this violent incident, highlighting the pressing need for awareness and intervention in domestic situations.
