Police ranks, led by a Gazetted Officer, conducted a significant eradication exercise at Fort Nassau, Upper Berbice River, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 5:00 AM to 4:05 PM.

During the operation, authorities located two fields covering approximately six acres, where they discovered around 250,000 cannabis plants, ranging in height from two to six feet. The operation also unearthed two makeshift camps and one drying area, containing approximately 330 pounds of dried cannabis.
All cannabis plants, dried cannabis, makeshift camps, and the drying area were destroyed by fire. Thankfully, no arrests were made during the operation, which was executed without incident.
The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is approximately $219,416,824 Guyana currency. Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to address illegal cannabis cultivation in the area.
