Rushana Hopkinson, a 28-year-old data entry clerk from Lot 77 Section C, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on February 22, 2026, by Corporal 22954 Kendall of the Turkeyen Police Station. She has been charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, in violation of Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.
Hopkinson made her first appearance in court on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #2 before Her Worship Magistrate Miss Abigail Gibbs. The charge was read to her, and she was not required to enter a plea at this stage of the proceedings.
She was granted bail in the amount of $650,000 cash. As conditions of her bail, Hopkinson is required to lodge her passport and report to the Turkeyen Police Station on the last Monday of each month.
The case now awaits further legal proceedings as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
