Michael Miguel, a 20-year-old male of Amerindian descent from Left Bank Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, before His Worship Magistrate Mr. Omandatt Chandan. He faced charges related to offences committed on February 24, 2026, on Tabatinga Public Road.

Miguel pleaded guilty to a total of nine charges, which included:

Uninsured Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 3 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Insurance (Third Party Risk) Act.

Penalty: $10,000 fine or one week imprisonment.

Uncertified Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 15 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $10,000 fine or one week imprisonment.

Fail to Have Identification Mark (Front) – Contrary to Section 13 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $30,000 fine or three weeks imprisonment.

Fail to Carry Reflecting Mirror – Breach of Regulation 57 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations.

Penalty: $5,000 fine or five days imprisonment.

Unlicensed Driver – Contrary to Section 23 (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $25,000 fine or two weeks imprisonment.

Unlicensed Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 22 (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $10,000 fine or one week imprisonment.

Failing to Stop When Directed by Police – Contrary to Section 52 (A) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $25,000 fine or two weeks imprisonment.

Obscured Identification Mark on Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 13 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.

Penalty: $20,000 fine or two weeks imprisonment.

Fail to Carry Direction Indicator Light (Rear) – Breach of Regulation 181 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations.

Penalty: $10,000 fine or one week imprisonment.

Pillion Rider Without Safety Helmet – Breach of Paragraph 3 (1) of the Motor Cycle (Protective Helmet) Regulations, 1972.

Penalty: $5,500 fine or one week imprisonment.
