A 22-year-old Venezuelan labourer is currently hospitalized following a violent robbery that occurred on Saturday night.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident happened around 7:40 PM at Flamboyant Street, Eccles Industrial Site. The victim had just left a nearby supermarket and was walking east along the street when he was approached by two males on a motorcycle.
The pillion rider dismounted and confronted the victim, leading to a scuffle between the two. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm, resulting in injuries to the victim’s left leg. The robbers made off with the victim’s cellular phone and $30,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Emergency Medical Technicians were called to the location, and the injured man was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical care. His condition is currently listed as stable.
Police reported that a spent 9mm shell was recovered from the scene and lodged as evidence. Investigators plan to review CCTV footage from the area to aid in their ongoing investigation into the robbery.
