A concerning incident unfolded on Monday when a Grade Five pupil from a city primary school was found in possession of a licensed firearm belonging to a relative.

The incident occurred around 1:06 PM when the pupil asked a teacher for permission to use the washroom. Shortly thereafter, another teacher reported hearing a “click” sound coming from under a desk. When questioned, the pupil denied hearing anything. A search of his haversack yielded no findings. However, the situation escalated when another student discovered a 9mm Taurus pistol hidden under the desk.
Police were promptly alerted and took possession of the firearm, which was loaded with a magazine containing eleven rounds of ammunition.
Investigations revealed that the firearm belongs to a licensed holder who is a relative of the student. The relative confirmed that he discovered the weapon missing from his safe earlier that day. Reports indicate that the firearm had been given to the child by his cousin that morning. The pupil had reportedly wrapped the gun, placed it in his haversack, and brought it to school.
Ongoing investigations are in progress to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
