Police are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately 11:00 AM on Orangestein Public Road. The collision involved Motor Lorry GZZ 5068, driven by a 27-year-old male from Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, and a motorcycle CM 5492, operated by 22-year-old Krishna Persaud, who was a resident of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara. Tragically, Persaud and his four-month-old son, Luke Persaud, were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Initial investigations revealed that the motor lorry was exiting a shopping mall parking lot and turning east on the road. As it did so, another motor lorry traveling west halted to allow the turn. The motorcycle, allegedly moving at a high speed, attempted to overtake the stationary vehicle on solid double yellow lines, crossing to the northern side of the road and colliding with the front section of Motor Lorry GZZ 5068.
The impact caused the motorcyclist and his passengers to be thrown onto the road surface, where they sustained serious injuries. They were transported to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, but both Krishna and Luke Persaud were pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel. A 19-year-old female pillion rider regained consciousness and has since been admitted to the female surgical ward with head and other injuries. Her condition is currently stable.
The bodies of the deceased are at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting post-mortem examinations. The driver of the motor lorry is currently in police custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver revealed no trace of alcohol.
CCTV footage from the area has been reviewed, and investigations are continuing. The Guyana Police Force is committed to uncovering further details surrounding this tragic incident.
