Police in Regional Division #3 have launched an investigation into a fatal accident that claimed the life of a one-year-old child on Thursday morning at Canal No. 1, West Bank Demerara.

The deceased has been identified as Talesh Bhudram, who lived at the residence where the incident occurred. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident took place at approximately 08:50 hrs in the yard of the family home and involved a motor tractor.
Investigators said the child’s father, who was operating the tractor, told police that he left the toddler seated on the front steps of the house before driving the vehicle out of the yard onto an access dam next to the property. He reportedly returned shortly after, disembarked the tractor, and discovered the child lying motionless in the yard with visible injuries to the head and body.
Emergency Medical Technicians from the La Grange Fire Service were dispatched to the scene. The child was pronounced dead by a doctor despite medical efforts.
The body has been taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police also stated that a breathalyzer test conducted on the father showed no trace of alcohol. He is currently in police custody and is assisting with the investigation. Authorities said inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
