In a statement issued this afternoon, the Ministry said the portal’s official launch will be announced “in due course.” The explanation came after the portal’s web address and related registration information were reportedly leaked and circulated during the testing phase, eventually spreading widely online.

According to the Ministry, hundreds of persons visited the unfinished portal, which resulted in the site crashing amid the volume of traffic. It said some government officials who may not have been aware the portal was still under development also shared the leaked information on their social media pages.

The Ministry urged members of the public to disregard any other information currently circulating about the grant portal until the official launch is announced, adding that it is working to ensure a “simple and seamless process” for all Guyanese.

The portal is reportedly being developed through the National Data Management Agency (NDMA), and it has been suggested that the leak may have originated from within the agency.
