Miner Drowns in Pomeroon River After Falling Overboard

Kaieteur Radio Reports : A 35-year-old miner from Wakapao Mission, Lower Pomeroon River has died after reportedly drowning in the Pomeroon River on Wednesday.

He was identified as Zandon Daniels. Reports say Daniels was captaining a small wooden boat powered by a 15 horsepower outboard engine when he may have fallen overboard around 14:30 hrs in the vicinity of Yacouri Creek.

The lone passenger on the boat told investigators that they were travelling to Massarrie Mission. The passenger said he was seated at the front of the boat when the engine stopped working. When he looked back, Daniels was not seen.

The passenger reportedly tried to locate Daniels in the water, but the effort was unsuccessful. He then alerted residents nearby, and a search party was formed.

Several hours later, Daniels’ body was reportedly recovered from the river.
