Kaieteur News Reports : A 16-year-old boy, Andel Martin of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was stabbed to death early Monday morning during an altercation along Robb Street, Lacytown, Georgetown.
The incident occurred at around 01:30. Kaieteur News reports that a 23-year-old suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to an eyewitness, Martin was among a group of four persons involved in an argument with the suspect. The situation escalated, and the suspect allegedly stabbed the teen before fleeing.
Martin’s aunt, Candacy Duncan, told reporters that she was in bed when her nephew called to say Andel had been stabbed. She later received information from another person who said he and Martin were attacked by several men armed with cutlasses. The individual reportedly fled and returned to find Martin lying motionless on the ground.
Relatives rushed to the scene after hearing the news, where they identified Martin’s body. Duncan said Martin was a familiar figure in the area, often helping patrons near entertainment venues—parking cars and selling mints.
She also said Martin had previous encounters with the police, adding that about a week earlier he had been taken by police after being accused of stealing three electronic bikes.
Meanwhile, the Red Dragon Club issued a statement expressing condolences to the family while distancing itself from the incident. The club said the stabbing did not occur within or on the premises of Club Red Dragon and that it has no involvement. It reiterated that it maintains a strict 18+ entry policy and does not permit minors.
Up to press time, the Guyana Police Force had not issued an official statement.
