According to resident Melissa Alleyne, the incident occurred at approximately 02:30 hours on Saturday after she detected a strong smell of gas inside the house and alerted her husband, Troy Alleyne, who went downstairs to check the kitchen. Moments later, a powerful explosion ripped through the building, causing extensive structural damage including the collapse of multiple rooms.

Two children who were inside the home at the time of the blast escaped without injuries. Troy Alleyne, however, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment following the explosion.

The extent of the damage to the property is estimated in the millions of dollars. Investigations are expected to determine the precise cause of the explosion and assess the structural safety of the remaining building.
