News Source Guyana Reports : Twenty-six-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud was this morning charged with the murder of her seven-year-old daughter, Isabella Dabidyal, who was strangled to death last week, and was immediately remanded to prison following her appearance at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court.

Shivpersaud, who walked with a limp as a result of self-inflicted injuries, was handcuffed as she made her way in and out of the courtroom.
The prosecution’s case is that on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Fyrish, Corentyne, Berbice, Shivpersaud manually strangled her young daughter to death — moments after posting a photograph on social media indicating it would be the last photograph of her and her two children. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Isabella died as a result of manual strangulation.
According to investigators, Shivpersaud reportedly became distraught after her reputed husband left their home for several days following an argument between them. The husband told investigators that on Sunday morning, his wife sent him a message giving him 15 minutes to return to the home — but by the time he arrived, it was too late.
It was the woman’s mother and another relative who broke into the house and discovered Shivpersaud unconscious beside her young daughter and baby son. Authorities suspect she also attempted to take the life of the infant boy, who survived.
The husband said that during previous disagreements, Shivpersaud would use the children against him — but he said he never believed matters would ever reach such a tragic end.
“I never believed it would have reached a stage when she would take the life of their own daughter,” he told investigators.
Isabella was laid to rest last Friday in her hometown of Fyrish, with the community and the nation still reeling from the heartbreaking tragedy.
