Prime Minister Mark Phillips is urging the public to remain calm and refrain from panic buying or hoarding fuel, as the Government confirms that shipments have already begun arriving and a steady schedule of deliveries is in place to resolve the temporary disruption to fuel supplies.

In a statement on Monday, the Prime Minister said the Government is aware of public anxiety surrounding the fuel situation and moved to address concerns following consultations with fuel importers. He confirmed that one major oil company experienced a delay in its shipment the primary cause of the disruption — but that the situation is already being addressed.
“There is no need for concern, panic buying, or hoarding. Adequate fuel supplies are entering the system, and this temporary disruption is being resolved,” Prime Minister Phillips said.
He also issued an important safety reminder to members of the public, cautioning that petroleum products are highly flammable and must be handled and stored with the greatest care. Storing gasoline in inappropriate containers, he warned, poses a serious fire risk and significantly increases the potential for injury, loss of life, and damage to property.
Multiple shipments have already landed and are being discharged, with further consignments scheduled for arrival over the coming days. The full schedule of fuel imports for the week is as follows:
Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil): 9,000 barrels of diesel and 21,000 barrels of gasoline are both expected to arrive on April 15, 2026, with offloading scheduled for Thursday morning.
SOL Guyana Inc.: 3,000 barrels of gasoline and 14,000 barrels of diesel both arrived on April 13, with discharge commenced and distribution expected to begin this evening. An additional 12,000 barrels of gasoline and 6,000 barrels of diesel are expected to arrive on April 14 at 2:20 p.m.

The Government said it will continue to monitor developments closely and will take all necessary measures to guarantee stable and reliable access to fuel across the nation.
