Police in Regional Division #4 ‘B’ (East Bank Demerara) are investigating the stabbing death of a 28-year-old construction worker who was killed during an altercation at Soesdyke on Saturday night.

Dead is Curtis Bengochea of Eight Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke, who was stabbed at around 22:30h at First Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke.
According to police reports, Bengochea and the suspect, who are known to each other, were drinking with a group of individuals when an argument broke out. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Bengochea. The two men ended up in a nearby drain, where a scuffle continued before bystanders intervened and separated them.
Bengochea was subsequently pulled from the drain with a wound to his left-side ribs area. The suspect fled the scene on foot. The injured man was escorted to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
His body was later transferred to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect remains at large and is being actively sought as investigations continue.
