News Room Reports : A 55-year-old fisherman was allegedly murdered during an altercation at a bar along the Golden Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday night, and a 49-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Dead is Elton Lilly of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara. According to Police Headquarters, the incident occurred at approximately 23:05 hours. Preliminary investigations revealed that Lilly and the suspect, who are known to each other, were drinking at the bar when an altercation broke out. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Lilly.
When ranks responded to the scene, they found Lilly lying in a pool of blood with several wounds about his body. A knife suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered in the vicinity of the bar and secured as evidence.
Emergency Medical Technicians attended the scene, where Lilly was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. His body was subsequently identified by a male relative and escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, a 49-year-old security guard of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was arrested and placed in custody. Investigations are continuing.
