Two individuals are in police custody after a police chase in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, led to the discovery of a firearm and ammunition concealed in a ski mask inside a motor car.

According to Police Headquarters, ranks on mobile patrol duty in Sophia observed a white Toyota Allion travelling in the opposite direction. The driver was acting suspiciously and, when signalled to stop, refused and sped off. Officers gave chase and intercepted the vehicle further north on Red Road, Sophia.
The driver, a 32-year-old vendor of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, was arrested at the scene and escorted along with the vehicle to the Turkeyen Police Station, where a search was conducted in his presence. During the search, a black ski mask was found containing a silver and black .380 Lorcin pistol and seven rounds of matching ammunition.
The female passenger, a 40-year-old waitress of Durban Street, Lodge, had left the scene as a crowd gathered but was subsequently located and arrested.
Both suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations. The firearm and ammunition have been lodged as evidence. Investigations are ongoing.
