Two Corentyne, Berbice men have each been fined $150,000 after pleading guilty to driving while their breath alcohol levels exceeded the prescribed limit, in separate matters heard at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate T. Hardy.

Mahash Achabar, 56, of Lot 140 Bushlot Village, Corentyne, was arrested on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at approximately 19:15 hours by Corporal Geddes. He appeared before the court on Thursday, April 24, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $150,000.
In a separate matter, Shahab Jamaludeen, 33, of Lot 365 Belvedere Squatting Area, Corentyne, was arrested on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at approximately 13:10 hours by Corporal Sullivan. He also appeared before Magistrate Hardy on April 24, 2026, pleaded guilty and was likewise fined $150,000.
Both men were charged under Section 39A(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by Act No. 17 of 2022.
