A 37-year-old taxi driver, Ryan Lewis, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Lewis, a resident of Shoe Lane, New Amsterdam, was formally charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a Licence and one count of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without a Licence.
During the proceedings before Magistrate Michelle Matthias, the charges were read to the defendant. Lewis entered a plea of not guilty to both counts.
Magistrate Matthias granted bail to the defendant, though with significant financial conditions. Lewis was ordered to post bail in the amount of $400,000 for the firearm charge and an additional $300,000 for the ammunition charge, totaling $700,000.
The case has been adjourned until July 6, 2026, when further proceedings are expected to take place.
