A 34-year-old boat captain from Puruni Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court earlier today to face charges related to an attempted arson.
Dwayne Sookdeo was formally charged with Attempting to Set Fire to a Building, an offense contrary to Section 146 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The charge was read to Sookdeo before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the allegation. Magistrate Mohammed granted Sookdeo bail in the sum of $100,000, and the matter has been adjourned until August 10, 2026, for the continuation of the proceedings.
