Canadian Investigator Surprised by Level of Medical and Pathological Probe in Adriana Younge Case

By News Source Guyana.

Canadian homicide investigator Leonard McCoshen, who spent a week in Guyana reviewing the police investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge, expressed surprise at the thoroughness of the medical and pathological investigations conducted on her body.

In a summary of his findings provided by the Guyana Police Force, McCoshen noted that he found no evidence of foul play in the information presented to him. He stated, “In all of my service in the RCMP and since, I had not ever seen this level of medical or pathological effort done on any deceased persons.” He highlighted the involvement of three highly qualified pathologists in the examinations, which he had never encountered before.

The initial post-mortem examination, conducted by the foreign pathologists, concluded that the child died by drowning. This examination was described as meticulous, revealing no signs of trauma or sexual assault.

A second post-mortem conducted in the United States by the Chief Medical Examiner of Gwinnett County corroborated the thoroughness of the first, while suggesting that drowning should be considered a diagnosis of exclusion.

McCoshen asserted that, based on his review of evidence, including video footage, there was no indication of foul play. He noted that the video showed no unusual circumstances regarding Adriana’s presence at the Double Day Hotel from the time she arrived until she was reported missing. No witnesses at the hotel reported seeing her leave or being taken from the pool area.

While commending the local investigators, McCoshen remarked that a more thorough initial search of the pool by trained personnel could have prevented the case from attracting significant international attention and political pressure.

The Guyana Police Force disclosed that McCoshen was given over 400 pages of documents and various digital forensic evidence during his week-long review. He also met with Adriana Younge’s family and their attorney.

The investigation’s conclusion was announced earlier this week, with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Adriana Younge’s body was discovered in the hotel pool one day after she went missing while with family. The case sparked protests, and the hotel was eventually destroyed by fire during these demonstrations.

Family members are now planning for her funeral, with a date yet to be announced.
