Tragic Discovery: Man Found Dead Near New Amsterdam Market

A man was discovered dead in the vicinity of the New Amsterdam Market on Saturday. The deceased, identified as 49-year-old Tyrone April, was reportedly of no fixed abode.

At approximately 7:00 AM, April was seen lying motionless in an alleyway between Payless Variety Store, China Supermarket, and the petrol station opposite the New Amsterdam Market at 14 Strand Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice. He was found wearing camouflage brown trousers and grey and white trainers, lying on his back with his hands curled to his chest.

An examination revealed partially healed scars on both knees and elbows, suggesting recent injuries; however, no other signs of violence were present. April was known to be a heavy consumer of alcohol and suffered from epilepsy.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Ministry of Health arrived to examine the body, which was subsequently taken to New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is currently at Arokium Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.

An investigation is actively underway.
