An arson attack was carried out on the Tobago home of the police officer who shot dead 74-year-old pensioner Frank Sandy. Reports indicate that the home was firebombed shortly before midnight on Saturday while relatives, including children, were inside. A front portion of the house sustained damage in the incident.
Yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Elie condemned the act, which comes in the wake of last Friday’s shooting death of Sandy. Elie stated, “I outright condemn that action. This type of vigilante action would not be tolerated in Tobago, especially against a member of the protective services.”

Police suspect the firebombing was a retaliation for Sandy’s shooting. According to the officer involved, around 5 a.m. on Friday, he was at home in Mt St George when he was awakened by his barking dogs. He observed a man attempting to enter his house, and the intruder reportedly attacked the officer with an object. The officer admitted to shooting the man, who turned out to be his neighbor, Sandy.
Reiterating the stance against vigilante justice, Elie added, “Persons who are determined to disrupt the smooth flow of investigations will not be tolerated. This investigation is ongoing, and we are doing everything possible to expedite it. We are in contact with the family and providing them with all necessary assistance.”
Assistant Superintendent Job has been appointed to investigate the incident, and officers from the TTPS Victim and Witness Support Unit have been assigned to assist both families.
