Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo Defends Infrastructure Investments
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has described the political opposition as “short-sighted” while defending the government’s infrastructure investments as essential for meeting the needs of the population. At his weekly press conference, Jagdeo highlighted the recent commencement of registration for the PAL motor vehicle series, just three months after the PAK series began. He noted that the rapid increase in new vehicles indicates growing prosperity among citizens, further underscoring the need for expanded road infrastructure.

Jagdeo criticized the opposition’s remarks regarding the government’s investments, stating that these projects are vital for improving access to facilities and reducing travel times across the country. He remarked, “Imagine if we had a short-sighted policy like that of the opposition. They’re saying that all the oil money in the budget must be distributed directly to people, and nothing must go to infrastructure.”
As the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP), he emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing and expanding the country’s infrastructure.
In addition to infrastructure projects, Jagdeo pointed out that the government has invested significantly in other areas, including increasing public sector wages and salaries by approximately $105 billion since 2020 and enhancing social services.
