Bharrat Jagdeo Welcomes Opposition Support for PPP/C

General Secretary of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, announced this afternoon his party’s enthusiasm in welcoming Opposition members who have expressed their support for President Irfaan Ali’s bid for a second term.

Recent endorsements came from Opposition Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond, as well as the Regional Chairman and Vice Chairman of Region No. 4, Daniel Seeram and Samuel Sandy.

During his weekly press conference, Mr. Jagdeo emphasized that those transitioning from the opposition will be treated with equality and respect within the PPP.

“We are happy to welcome these individuals into our family. I assure them that we treat all of our members and supporters with respect. There have been attempts to vilify them, but we live in a free country where people can express their views about what they perceive as defection. What I see is people joining us due to the progress and leadership provided by the People’s Progressive Party,” Mr. Jagdeo stated.

He views these endorsements positively, interpreting them as a commitment to a national plan aimed at benefiting all of Guyana. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of endorsing a multi-ethnic platform and demonstrating competency in governance.

“This support reflects democratic traditions and values, contrasting with the complaints we hear from the other side. I maintain an entirely positive outlook on this situation and have informed these individuals that they might face vilification, but those doing the vilifying are the ones who are isolated,” Mr. Jagdeo remarked.

The Vice President clarified that none of the endorsing individuals were promised positions in government. However, he stressed that new members of the PPP must prioritize the nation’s development alongside their own personal growth.
