Linden Man Fined $35,000 for Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

News

A Linden man, Devon Reid, was fined $35,000 after admitting to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Orpha Persaud, during a confrontation at the Kingston Seawall on August 10.

Reid and Persaud were arguing over a domestic matter when the situation escalated. While Reid claimed there was no physical assault, Persaud testified that he slapped and pulled her out of a car after demanding $60,000. The prosecution supported her account, stating that Reid had indeed assaulted her.

Although the couple had jointly purchased a car, Persaud discovered it was registered solely in Reid’s name. She indicated she did not wish to proceed with the case after being promised a refund.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore ordered Reid to pay the fine and stay away from Persaud.
