I News Guyana Reports : A young man, identified as 22-year-old Alex Persaud from Timehri Base Road, was tragically killed by a speeding lorry on Wednesday at Supply, East Bank Demerara. Reports indicate that Persaud was standing on the parapet when the vehicle swerved and struck him, resulting in his death at the scene.

The incident occurred shortly before both the victim and the lorry driver were scheduled to appear in court on August 18 concerning an earlier assault case involving Persaud’s cousin. Tensions had escalated between Persaud and the driver, following an altercation stemming from the assault.
Relatives suspect that the driver, who is from Soesdyke, intentionally ran down Persaud. After the collision, the driver reportedly fled the scene, parking the lorry in Sarah Johanna before going into hiding. Police have since launched a manhunt for him.
This incident comes less than a month after Persaud’s wedding. Investigations are ongoing.
