Jagdeo Claims Video Evidence of Mohameds Visiting Venezuelan Embassy

News

I News Reports : Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo announced that video evidence exists showing Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin visiting the Venezuelan Embassy in Georgetown to apply for visas. This revelation follows a statement from Minister of Foreign Affairs Hugh Todd, who confirmed the embassy visit amid concerns over potential Venezuelan influence in Guyana’s upcoming elections.

Azruddin Mohamed, a US-sanctioned businessman and presidential hopeful, denied the claims, asserting he never visited the embassy. Jagdeo questioned why the Mohameds would seek Venezuelan visas, suggesting it could be linked to Venezuela’s lack of an extradition treaty with the US.

The US Treasury Department previously sanctioned the Mohameds for allegedly smuggling gold and evading taxes. Minister Todd noted the potential threat to Guyana’s sovereignty, emphasizing the need for vigilance against foreign interference in elections.
