The De Kinderen Regional Hospital has made significant strides in delivering essential medical services since its commissioning in August 2025, catering to over 8,000 patients, with officials noting considerable patient turnout in all major departments.

During an impromptu visit on Saturday, President Irfaan Ali was informed by hospital staff that the emergency department sees approximately 70 patients every day, highlighting the vital role the facility plays for residents in the region.
Advanced medical services are also in high demand. The radiology department has assisted over 500 patients, conducting around 10 CT scans daily. This represents a substantial improvement for residents who previously had to travel to the Georgetown Public Hospital or private centers for similar services.
Additionally, critical care statistics remain robust, with more than 100 patients treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since the hospital opened. The maternity wing has celebrated over 100 new births.
At the time of President Ali’s visit, hospital officials reported that five patients were hospitalized, with a team of three doctors on duty during the day and two at night, effectively managing an average of 25 patients per doctor.
The $6.6 billion De Kinderen Hospital was established as part of Guyana’s efforts to modernize its healthcare system, specifically to serve the needs of Region Three residents. This state-of-the-art facility offers both specialized and essential medical services, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Mental Health, and Psychiatry.
In addition to the above, patients have access to a 24/7 Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient care, advanced laboratory and imaging services, as well as dental and optical care.
President Ali engaged with hospital staff and the relatives of patients during his visit, assessing the overall service delivery of the new facility.
