NCN Reports : The Director of Public Prosecutions has advised that 26-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud be charged with the murder of her seven-year-old daughter, Isabella Dabidyal, in a case that has deeply shaken communities across Guyana.
Police sources confirmed that legal advice was received from the DPP late Friday afternoon, clearing the way for the indictable murder charge to be formally instituted against Shivpersaud. She is also accused of attempting to take the life of her 21-month-old son during the same incident.
The tragedy unfolded on April 5, 2026, at Fyrish, Corentyne, Berbice. A post-mortem examination subsequently confirmed that Isabella died as a result of manual strangulation.
Shivpersaud, who was hospitalised following the incident after allegedly inflicting injuries upon herself, has since been discharged and remains in police custody. She is expected to make her first court appearance shortly, where the murder charge will be formally read.
Her toddler son, who survived the ordeal, is now in the care of his grandmother and is reported to be in good health.
Friday also marked the day Isabella was laid to rest, as grieving relatives, friends, and community members gathered for an emotional funeral service to say their final goodbyes to the cheerful and loving little girl whose life was cut tragically short.
