The newly formed political coalition, Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), has been granted three days to resubmit a corrected version of its party symbol after the original submission did not meet the approval standards set by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

Vincent Alexander, an opposition-nominated commissioner, confirmed this development to Kaieteur News on Wednesday. His statement followed GECOM’s announcement that symbols for 19 out of 22 parties vying to contest the September 1, 2025, general and regional elections have been approved.
The FGM, co-led by Amanza Walton-Desir (Forward Guyana), Nigel London (The People’s Movement), and Dorwin Bess (Vigilant Political Action Committee – V-PAC), was informed that one of the three pending symbols requires minor modifications for final approval.
Following GECOM’s press release, members of the FGM expressed frustration over not being notified in advance that their symbol was under review. This announcement came shortly after the coalition publicly launched its new symbol and campaign.
During a live broadcast on Nigel London’s Facebook page, Walton-Desir and Bess criticized GECOM’s handling of the situation, questioning the transparency of the commission. Walton-Desir noted that The People’s Movement’s symbol had previously been approved for local government elections.
“They have a problem with the Forward Guyana sign with our symbol in the wheel, and they have a problem with The People’s Movement,” Walton-Desir stated. “It appears as though GECOM is making this up as it goes along.”
In response, Commissioner Alexander clarified that the FGM’s symbol was conditionally approved, citing inaccuracies in its depiction of the map of Guyana. “The symbol has been approved subject to the true portrayal of the map of Guyana,” he explained.
Alexander confirmed that the coalition has three days to make the necessary adjustments. “It has the fiat of the commission once it rectifies its portrayals,” he added.
With a tight deadline ahead, the Forward Guyana Movement must amend and resubmit its symbol in compliance with GECOM’s guidelines to qualify for participation in the upcoming elections.
