Nearly 50,000 central government employees will receive the 2026 $100,000 National Cash Grant within the next 24 hours as the Government begins electronic distribution of the payments. A total of 48,858 public servants — including teachers and members of the disciplined services — are included in this first wave, with close to GYD 5 billion being transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The rollout fulfils a commitment made by President Irfaan Ali and announced in this year’s national budget.

This initial phase targets employees already on the banking system to enable rapid, seamless payments and forms part of a wider push toward digitisation and financial inclusion. Authorities said the approach makes it easier, safer and more transparent for citizens to access government support.
The next phase will launch a new online platform next week allowing other eligible Guyanese aged 18 and over to register for the grant. Officials are urging citizens to open bank accounts to ensure timely receipt of payments. The programme is expected to inject tens of billions of dollars into the economy as part of ongoing national cash grant initiatives aimed at boosting household incomes and expanding access to financial services.
