A 38-year-old South Amelia’s Ward resident was remanded to prison on Thursday after being formally charged with the murder of Wayne Tevin Wilson in Wismar.

Johnathan De Souza appeared before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charge was read against him. He was not required to enter a plea and has been remanded to custody until his next court appearance on July 10, 2026.
The fatal confrontation occurred on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 6:10 p.m. at Wilson’s residence in Scheme Hill, Wismar.
According to police reports, the incident began when De Souza was reportedly discovered using Wilson’s yard as a latrine. In response, Wilson allegedly armed himself with a wooden object and began striking De Souza. During the ensuing struggle, De Souza allegedly produced a weapon and stabbed Wilson multiple times.
The victim sustained fatal wounds to the left side of his upper chest, his left upper arm, and the left side of his head.
Following the charge, concerns regarding De Souza’s mental health have been brought to the fore. His mother, who supports him by performing odd jobs in their neighborhood, stated that her son is a diagnosed schizophrenic living with multiple mental health conditions. She confirmed that he is a registered patient at the Linden Hospital’s Psychiatric Department.
Speaking on the tragedy, the distraught mother expressed her confusion and pain, stating that she is struggling to process the events. She noted that she hopes her son will receive the necessary mental health support and treatment while he remains on remand.
