Thirty-year-old Heamwant Charrittar of Affiance, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon–Supenaam), was on Tuesday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to escaping from lawful custody.

Charrittar was initially arrested on Thursday, 12 March 2026, on a charge of stealing a goat. He escaped while in custody but was later re-arrested and charged for the escape.
He appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court. After the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied and he entered a guilty plea, the magistrate handed down a two-year jail term.
