Odessa Primus Critiques Government Spending on Legal Matters

News

Member of Parliament Odessa Primus expressed strong concerns on Facebook regarding the government’s expenditure on legal cases involving the Mohamed family. She revealed that the state has hired a total of 20 lawyers, with 12 representing Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed and 8 for Hana Mohamed. Primus criticized the government’s financial decisions, highlighting that it incurs significant costs, such as flying in lawyers and covering their accommodations, meals, and transportation for court appearances.

She pointed out the irony of the government allocating such substantial funds for legal battles while also claiming to be unable to provide adequate increases for public servants or meaningful pension adjustments, which include only a $5,000 increase for pensioners.

Primus further emphasized the plight of citizens relying on social media to seek financial assistance for medical needs, including life-saving surgeries that the government fails to fully fund. She criticized the government for prioritizing its legal expenditures while ordinary citizens struggle with healthcare costs, arguing that this spending could potentially surpass a billion dollars in total without significant justification.

Her remarks culminated in a call to question the government’s commitment to serving its citizens, concluding that it appears more focused on self-interest rather than addressing the urgent needs of the population. “This is a sickening state of affairs!” she stated.
