A community is in mourning following the tragic death of one-year-old Ethan Christian, who drowned on Wednesday morning, June 10, 2026.
According to a report from the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 11:43 a.m. The toddler’s mother had left him lying on a bed inside their home to briefly visit a nearby toilet. Upon her return, she discovered that the child was missing from the bed.
A frantic search of the premises and the surrounding area ensued. The toddler was eventually discovered lying face down and motionless in a pool of water, estimated to be approximately three feet deep and located about 100 feet from the family home.
The unresponsive child was rushed to the Karasabai Public Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.
Initial examinations conducted by authorities found no marks of violence on the child’s body. The remains are currently at the Karasabai Public Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to officially confirm the cause of death. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain ongoing.
