Deon La Cruz, a Member of Parliament representing the WIN party for Region One, was arrested on Wednesday following serious allegations of domestic violence involving his wife and child.
According to reports from the Guyana Police Force, the incident began as an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. La Cruz allegedly:
Assaulted his child during the altercation.
Attacked the child’s mother when she intervened, pushing her to the ground and causing her to hit her head and lose consciousness.
Armed himself with a chopper and advanced toward her in a threatening manner, leading the victim to fear for her life.
La Cruz has remained in police custody since the report was filed.
In an official statement, the WIN party, speaking through Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed, confirmed awareness of the arrest and expressed strong condemnation of the alleged actions.
The party emphasized its commitment to accountability, stating:
