President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s campaign promise of a new four-lane bridge across the Demerara River is nearing realization, as concrete was poured this evening for the last of its 62 piers at Pier 35.

Ministers Deodat Indar and Bishop Juan Edghill were present to witness this significant milestone. In a media briefing, Minister Indar highlighted that the bridge will facilitate a smooth flow of traffic, elevating from 2.5 degrees to a maximum of 4.8 degrees.
Minister Indar emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering this project to the Guyanese people, stating that it will greatly enhance commuting for thousands of residents.
Currently, the cable-stayed main span at Pier 34 is complete with 10 segments, while 9 out of 19 segments on the eastern end are finished. All girders on the western end are completed, and the remaining girders on the eastern end are expected to be installed by June 15.
The supervisory firm, Politechnica, has reported that the bridge’s construction is on schedule and adheres to international standards and specifications set by the Government of Guyana.
Over 1,300 workers are engaged in round-the-clock operations to ensure the bridge is completed by August 31, 2025. This project is set to transform transportation in the region and stands as a testament to the government’s infrastructural commitments.
