Police in Regional Division number 4 ‘C’ are investigating an incident in which two persons disappeared after being dragged under by strong currents while swimming at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday afternoon.
The missing have been identified as Lyodisa Waldron, called “Loyda,” 20, a sales girl of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, and Andri Francis, called “Bobby,” 31, a Special Constable of the same address.
According to initial enquiries, the two were swimming at Unity Beach at around 14:00hrs when Waldron reportedly began drifting outward toward the Atlantic Ocean and called out for help. Francis went to her aid, but both persons were subsequently pulled under by the current and disappeared beneath the surface.
An alarm was raised, prompting checks at the scene and surrounding areas of Unity Beach in an effort to locate the pair. As of the time of this report, neither individual has been found.
Search efforts remain ongoing as police investigations continue.
